I May Want to be Rich...But

Al Salam Alaikum wa Rahmat Allah wa Barakatoh

The saying of Prophet Mohammad -peace and blessings of Allah are upon him- which I mentioned in my previous blog:

"اللهم أحيني مسكينًا، وأمتني مسكينًا، واحشرني في زمرة المساكين"

Mentioning this saying with the choice of my title which was:  I Don't want to be Rich!  Both of them might confuse some of you, and that's why I'm going to elaborate a little bit on that.  What is meant by this saying or "prayer" of our Prophet and -as scholars said- is not asking Allah "not to be rich or to be poor", but it means to be a humble person, not an arrogant one, and to be with these kinds of people - I mean "humble" in its positive meaning- whether here in this life or in the Hereafter.

We observe many people in this life who are poor but proud and arrogant, on the other hand, we find others who are really very rich and at the same time they are so humble.  Thus, a rich person can serve his/herself, their families, their communities and the whole world in a way that the poor person cannot afford to do.

On the contrary, some poor people can do the goodness to all the categories of the society by offering other things rather than money, such as:  Advising, writing useful writings, offering other kinds of physical help, etc.

My final word on that is that the most important thing here is YOUR intention, your heart, what you really want out of doing anything; do you mean to obey and worship Allah at first?  Then, of course other beneficial intentions of serving others, just "others" in its broad meaning and as much as possible which of course are heavenly desires, or you have other intentions as to gain other worldly, earthly, dreadful desires?!  It's up to you!
