Al Salam Alaikum wa Rahmat Allah wa Barakatoh
The above-mentioned first statement is the best greeting between and among Muslims, and as I promised yesterday, I'll try to explain its meaning in a simple way.
First of all, "Al Salam": Means I wish you and ask Allah the Great to give you all kinds of peace in your entire life. "Alaikum", means on you, e.g. its like: Peace be upon you. "Wa" means: And.
Second, "Rahmat Allah": Means the Mercy of Allah.
Last, "Barakatoh": Means the Blessings of Allah.
Hence, every time I start my blog by saying: Peace, Mercy and Blessings of Allah be upon you all.
Further, I would like to tell you about one of the sings of "the day of judgment" which relates to our topic, and it's told by Prophet Mohammad -peace & blessings of Allah be upon him- what is this sign?! It is when people say "Salam" only to the ones they know, which is not the behavior of Islam since a good Muslim should greet all his/her brothers and sisters in Islam even if he/she doesn't know them personally.
And this thing also applies with all people and not only Muslims, also there are many times when other people from different nationalities and from different religions greet me with a big nice smile whenever they see me, even though they don't personally know me.
Moreover, there is a reward in Islam for the Muslim who smiles whenever he sees his/her brother or sister in Islam, and this reward is known from this saying of our Prophet:
"تبسمك في وجه أخيك صدقة"
Meaning: Your smile whenever you see your brother or sister in Islam is considered a donation, e.i: As if you are donating money or whatever to poor people, which means you'll get the same reward.
Thus, let's Smile, Smile and Smile from now on to everybody, and let's greet everyone we face... :)
